About this event:
Single Session
Our single professional learning sessions are designed to easily fit into your day. Typically one hour or less, these sessions explore timely and relevant topics including teaching strategies, current events, and more.
Instructor-Led
This professional learning event will be led by Facing History staff. When you register, you will receive instructions for how to attend the event.
Young people are spending hours a day online, particularly on social media platforms. How they engage with these platforms has personal, social and societal consequences: what people read, see and hear shapes their understanding of the world and what they share can impact how they feel about themselves and influence other people. It is therefore important for young people to understand how social media platforms work, and how to engage with them in healthy and constructive ways.
Join us for a one-hour webinar to learn strategies and resources for supporting students as they navigate the world of social media. We will be joined by social media expert Drew Benvie, who wrote the first entry on wikipedia for social media in 2006. He will be sharing his insights on the issues with social media and how these platforms can be harnessed for the greater good.
We will be using resources from our unit Developing Media Literacy for Well-being, Relationships and Democracy.
This workshop is appropriate for all secondary school teachers as it will outline ways that teachers and schools can fulfil statutory and non-statutory requirements related to Online Safety and Keeping Children Safe in Education.
This event is for teachers in the UK.
