How can educators create a space for students to engage in reflective and critical conversations about the issues brought up in the 2024 election? The divisive rhetoric of the United States’ election process has shown us that we must figure out how to talk—and listen—with civility and respect. These skills are vital to the health of civil society and the future of democracy.
Join Facing History and the Museum of Tolerance for an in-person workshop where educators will experience teaching strategies designed to help students learn to listen respectfully to different opinions and experiences, try out ideas and positions, and give—and get—constructive feedback without fear or intimidation, the essential skills for civic participation and democratic dialogue. The Museum of Tolerance will engage participants with interactive exhibits in the new Social Lab where they and their students will learn how to challenge assumptions and confront prejudice and bigotry, whether it is within ourselves, our communities or around the world
This interactive workshop is for teachers, administrators and all school personnel.
Lunch and materials are included for free.
This workshop is a project of the California Teachers Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education, established by the JFCS Holocaust Center, with support from the California Department of Education, Marin County Office of Education, and the State of California.
