Preparing For The Future: Upcoming Professional Development For School Leaders
For principals, administrators, curriculum leads, and other school leaders, having a strong understanding of your school's culture is essential for creating successful learning environments. But finding the right tools and support to help you assess and develop an inclusive and equitable culture can be challenging. This July and August Facing History & Ourselves is thrilled to offer two professional development opportunities specifically designed to help.
Why school leaders choose Facing History
Explore our two summer professional development offerings for school leaders
Over the last few years, we've heard from teachers, administrators, and other education leaders that building a safe and inclusive school community is a top priority. But we know that for school leaders, juggling your day-in and day-out demands can make this important work feel daunting. Facing History has two professional development sessions that can help you set aside dedicated time to prepare for the year ahead . Both sessions provide tools and resources that can help you plan for and create meaningful changes in your school.
First, on July 25, we're offering a half-day School Leaders Institute focused on leading and creating an equitable school culture and climate. When striving toward more equitable educational practices there can be a tendency to jump into a problem-solving headspace. However, the work of equity and justice requires deep self reflection on the part of educators. Informed by our Teachng for Equity & Justice model, this institute intentionally holds space to do some of that introspection and assessment work. All participants will hear from expert Facing History staff, explore our unique Equity Reflection Tool, connect with like-minded leaders, and build an action plan for the upcoming year.
Then August 2-3 we're offering our two-day Explorations workshop, designed specifically for school design teams. This hands-on session is a way to come together with colleagues to gain a shared understanding of how bringing Facing History’s pedagogy, approach, and resources to your whole school or district can be a catalyst for change. We will explore the ways Facing History's approach brings together principles of social-emotional learning, equity, and civic education to help you more deeply engage with both educators and students. Every participant will leave with a deepened sense of purpose and renewed capacity to nurture relationships, center students, and cultivate equity mindsets.
