We Are Facing History: Change Starts with Us
June 21, 2024 | 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm BST
London, UK
Join us for an afternoon of conversation and learning to explore how we can use our individual civic agency to affect change.
Taking inspiration from Facing History’s work in the classroom, this afternoon of community dialogue will engage us in conversations about the challenges we face in building a cohesive society and robust democracy. We’ll discuss ways to build empathy and understanding in order to decrease polarisation, and learn how each of us can take actions which strengthen our society. The opening keynote speaker Jon Alexander, author of Citizens, will introduce the day with a thought provoking session on how we can all be better citizens.
Sessions will include:
- Standing Up Against Racial and Religious Hatred
- Developing Media Literacy Skills to Safeguard Our Society
- How do we assess the quality of our democracy - and what can we as individuals do to strengthen it
- Student panel: Change Starts with Us: Student Voices Shaping the 21st Century
This will be a really special event bringing together our community of teachers, supporters, young people and partners to think about the positive impact we can have as individuals, inspired by the actions of Facing History students.
