Martha Minow "Just Schools" Conference at NYU

In New York City 46.7% of households use a language other than English at home and school-aged children in the city speak 190 different languages.

How do  and how should  schools deal with student diversity in an era of mass immigration, declining racial integration, and growing religious diversity? And how should particular communities and national policies negotiate the educational goals of equal opportunity, passing on cultural inheritance, and enhancing civic membership in an "inclusive society?"

Facing History and Ourselves, NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, the Social Science Research Council and the Russell Sage Foundation are hosting a day-long conversation about a new book that looks at these issues: Just Schools: Pursuing Equality in Societies of Difference (Edited by Martha Minow, Hazel Markus and Richard Shweder)

Where: New York University's Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Sq. South, E&L Auditorium, 4th Floor.
When: June 2, Registration begins at 10:30am; introductions begin at 11:00am. Lunch will be provided and the day ends at 4:30pm.
