2008 San Francisco Bay Area Benefit Dinner
Facing History and Ourselves and
Benefit Chairs Connie & Jamie Shapiro and Sue Ann & Bob Schiff
invite you to the 6th Annual San Francisco Bay Area Benefit.
Date: Sunday, May 4, 2008
Time: Reception at 5:00pm, Dinner and Program 6:00-8:00pm
Location: Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco, 757 Market Street @ Third
Dress: Business Attire
Featuring Dr. Terrence Roberts
On September 23, 1957, in Little Rock, Arkansas, nine
black teenagers faced angry mobs as they tried to enter Central High
for their first day of class. The nation watched as these brave
individuals, who became known as the Little Rock Nine, battled immense
racism and hatred for their right to go to an integrated school. The
story of the Little Rock Nine provides insight into the consequences of
challenging long-held beliefs about race. We invite you to join us as
Dr. Terrence Roberts, a member of the Little Rock Nine, shares his
experiences of this historic year.
Since 1976, Facing History and Ourselves has been engaging students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry. By studying the historical development and lessons of the Holocaust and other examples of genocide, students make the essential connection between history and the choices they confront in their own lives.
Please join us for the 6th Annual San Francisco Bay Area Benefit Dinner to support and celebrate educators, students, and community members who face history and choose to participate!
